Speaking to leading global bartenders and industry experts, who are ripping up the ‘rulebook’ and doing things differently, this theme explores the origins of bar culture, the ways it has evolved (depending on your outlook) and the role of bartenders: how it can be done differently, by broadening your perspective to create memorable experiences for your customers.

In this episode, we look at the impact that design and functionality (or the lack thereof) can have when running a bar – exploring how customer experience is only as good as the experience and efficiency of the bartenders themselves.

Along the way, we speak to a bar design expert, innovative bartenders and a tech professional – inspiring our audience with examples of beautiful – and functional – hospitality design, whilst uncovering the spectrum of decisions that can affect (and improve) the day-to-day workings of a bartenders workplace…

Raw Materials & Flavour

In this episode, our experts focus on two of the most important components of making drinks – raw materials and flavour. By balancing old ways of presenting flavours with new ones, exploring other supply chains for our ingredients and educating guests on the produce that goes into their drinks, bartenders can start to answer the question: what is the essence of flavour?
From the importance of understanding ingredients, to sourcing seasonally, creating uniqueness and finding an identity: this episode explores how bartenders can be leaders in changing consumers’ (and future bartenders’) understanding of produce and how it relates to flavour.

From effective communication to navigating failure and adversity, they explain what it takes to truly lead a team.

How do we perceive flavour?

In this episode, we examine how the senses work, and the impact they can have on our perception of flavours. Sight, sound, taste, touch and smell: all five senses need to be considered when working with flavour creation. From London, to Taipei and Seoul, our experts –professors and authors, bartenders and owners – explain how they affect the flavours in our glass.

With the rum category in growth and the flavours of Jamaica Rum so distinctive to other production styles, we welcome you to join us for an afternoon session of education, exploration . . . and rum tasting.

Aside from tasting some great rums, participants will also learn the fundamentals from the diverse world of Rum, including history, production and aging techniques from Campari Academy UK’s Rum Expert, Chris Dennis.

The session is open to anyone currently working in the on-trade and should last no longer than 2 hours.
