In February 2026, Campari Academy UK welcomed Arielle Johnson (Flavour Scientist, Author – Flavorama) and Adrian Forde‑Beggs (Head of Creative – Lyan Bars) to collaborate on a session focusing on the intricacies of modern R&D techniques and how to implement them in a programmatic manner to unlock creativity, flavour, and unique storytelling opportunities.

Introduction – What is Creativity?
Creativity is an incredibly subjective term, finding its way into the arts, solutions management, and science. Here, Arielle and Adrian speak to their way of defining creativity and how it is applied to their areas of expertise.
Chapter One – Transformation, Microbes & Flavour Tuning
In this chapter, Arielle and Adrian walk through two of the key Lyan processes for flavour creation: A.T.O.M and Hacked Garum. Through this tear‑down of how each process works, has been tested, and dialled in, attendees were able to experience these ingredients through their evolution and see how they are applied to their ultimate purpose; making delicious drinks.
Chapter 2 – Parallels, Polarity and Distillation
Whether you are working in a bar, in the kitchen, or distilling spirits, there is always an explanation beyond “these delicious things together create a delicious thing.” In this chapter, Arielle and Adrian present insights and approaches that dig deeper into the scientific reasoning behind why deliciousness can be stumbled upon — and even why a little bit of spring water in your whisk(e)y goes a long way.
Chapter 3 – Why Aroma Matters
Our sense of smell is an exceptionally important component when we think about flavour — so why is it so understudied and misunderstood? By using the attendees for a live experiment, Arielle and Adrian demonstrated the importance of aroma in how we perceive flavour, while uncovering some incredible scientific insights and results from this part of the seminar.
